The opera 27

In the heart of Paris, a small salon becomes a hub for a new artistic movement. 27 tells the captivating love story of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, two women who created a home, a community, and a refuge for some of the twentieth century’s greatest artists. Within these walls, Picasso, Matisse, and Hemingway gather before the world knows their names, and passion, ambition, friendship, and ideas collide—ideas that will go on to reshape the history of art.

Composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek weave together music, humour, and a deeply moving perspective in an accessible contemporary opera about a love that endures war, conflict, and the relentless passage of time.

Tickets are now available from Reykjavík City Theatre.

27 is supported by the Performing Arts Fund and the Music Fund.
